A Research article published here on February 28, 2026 put specific numbers on Dante Labs' delivery problem. We timed twelve orders placed across 2025, measuring the interval from kit activation to report delivery. The median turnaround was 182 days against a company-advertised window of eight weeks. Trustpilot at the time showed Dante Labs at 1.8 stars out of 5. The Better Business Bureau rated the company F, citing high complaint volume and documented non-response. In March 2026, Dante Labs CEO Andrea Riposati published a blog post on the company's website titled "You Deserved Better. Here's What Changed." In it, he described hearing directly from customers about timelines that weren't met, communication that wasn't clear enough, and a product experience that didn't match the quality of the underlying science. The post described a path forward: rebuilt operations, clearer customer communication, and a reporting pipeline designed to meet the turnaround windows the company had been advertising.
It was a notable move. Most consumer genomics companies facing systematic delivery failures respond with customer-service silence, dead-end escalation paths, and promotional discounts for dissatisfied buyers. A CEO-level public acknowledgment of the gap between what was being promised and what customers were actually receiving is a different kind of response -- and it came from a company that has been selling directly to consumers since 2016. Three months is not a long time to rebuild a laboratory operations pipeline; the question is whether the direction of movement is correct.
Three months on, Trustpilot shows Dante Labs at 1.6 stars out of 5 -- a drop from the 1.8 recorded in our February article, in the same period since the pledge was made. The Better Business Bureau rating remains F. Trustpilot reviews filed in 2026 describe orders placed in mid-2025 with no results delivered, customers told completion was imminent by April 2026 and then May 2026, with results still absent as those reviewers wrote. One account describes a wait measured in years. The pattern those reviews describe is structurally identical to what the February data documented: a queue-management failure in which the communication cycle -- promise, delay, new promise -- has outlasted multiple rounds.
Dante Labs announced in late 2024 that it had upgraded its sequencing hardware from an older Illumina instrument to the Illumina NovaSeq X series, per company announcements. The newer instruments increase production throughput and reduce the per-base error rate. This is a real change to raw sequencing capacity. But the bottleneck the review record describes is not raw sequencing capacity. Sequencing a 30x human genome takes roughly 48 hours of instrument time on modern hardware. The variables that differentiate a six-week turnaround from a six-month one are sample-queue management, customer communication, and report delivery pipeline -- organizational and process constraints, not instrument limitations.
For a buyer in June 2026, the decision framework is the same one we outlined in February. Dante Labs has historically positioned itself as a low-cost entry point into 30x WGS, and the CEO's March acknowledgment is evidence of leadership that at least recognizes the execution gap. Whether that recognition closes the gap is what the public review record will measure over the next quarter, and what it measured over the last quarter is a score that moved in the wrong direction. If turnaround time matters to your use case -- family planning, pharmacogenomics, an active clinical question -- the safer choice today remains Nucleus, Sequencing.com, SelfDecode, DNA Complete, or Veritas, all of which carry significantly better documented delivery records at a higher price point. If you are sequencing specifically for cost-minimization with no timeline pressure, the CEO's March acknowledgment is at least more candid than historical marketing. Whether it becomes more than an acknowledgment is the data point to watch.
